Fr. Amando Trujillo Cano Is the New TOR Minister General

ROME — Fr. Amando Trujillo Cano, TOR, who served as general spiritual assistant for the OFS and YouFra for the past six years, was elected minister general of the Third Order Regular (TOR) on June 9, 2019. He succeeded Fr. Nicholas Polichnowski.

A musician and song writer, Father Amando was known for bringing his gift of music to Secular Franciscans and Franciscan Youth.

A native of Mexico City, Father Amando joined the Order and studied for the priesthood there. After being ordained in 1988 and finishing his theology studies in 1989, he worked in parish and youth ministries in Mexico for several years before serving in a parish in Texas, USA for 12 years. From 2005 to 2007 he served as provincial minister of the Vice Province of Santa María de Guadalupe.
In the General Chapter of 2007 he was elected general councilor and subsequently appointed general assistant for the Secular Franciscan Order and Franciscan Youth. In 2016 he obtained a degree in theology at the Pontifical University Antonianum in Rome, with a specialization in spiritual theology. His thesis was entitled: “The states of Christian life in the Blaquerna of Raimundo Lulo.” In the General Chapter of 2013 he was elected vicar general for 2013-2019 and was confirmed in his office as general assistant for OFS-YouFra for the same period.
