On 25 February 2025, Pope Francis announced that José Gregorio Hernández Cisneros, a doctor, scientist, and man of deep faith, known as the “Doctor of the Poor, will be canonized. A date for the celebration is expected to be determined in the coming months.
The canonization of José Gregorio Hernández Cisneros is a significant event not only for Venezuela, but for our entire Secular Franciscan Order. Pope Francis stated about doctor Jose, „His life was an extraordinary fusion of medical expertise, charity, and holiness — an example of how science and faith, intellect and compassion, can work together for the good of others.”
