In addition to being minister general of the Third Order Regular friars, Amando Trujillo Cano, TOR, is a singer/songwriter. So, it didn’t come as a great surprise when he brought his music to the General Chapter mass on Nov. 14. Following his homily on the need to be tirelessly counter-cultural in the face of local and global tensions, tragedies and immorality, Friar Amando serenaded the congregation with one of his recent compositions.
Applause erupted in the chapel as he ended his song.
In his homily he praised “those Secular Franciscans” who “manifested Jesus’ compassion toward the poor and unprotected in society,” and those who show “their reverence for God’s creation and their commitment to the well-being not only of humans, but of all creatures.”
He concluded that the Kingdom of God will “make its way through the challenges and opportunities of our time when there are believing hearts and helping hands who care for those around us and for our common home.”
