Il fut cur\u00e9 de Savogno. Au cours de sept ann\u00e9es de minist\u00e8re z\u00e9l\u00e9, il entra en contact avec Don Bosco et l\u2019institution Cottolengo de Turin. D\u00e9sireux d\u2019une exp\u00e9rience religieuse plus radicale, il se rendit aupr\u00e8s de Don Bosco en 1875 et pronon\u00e7a ses v\u0153ux religieux pour trois ans. L\u2019\u00e9v\u00eaque de C\u00f4me le rappela dans son dioc\u00e8se, et Don Guanella revint avec le r\u00eave de fonder une institution qui accueillerait les enfants n\u00e9cessiteux.<\/p>\n<p>Luigi est le fondateur de plusieurs instituts religieux : les Filles de Sainte Marie de la Providence (1890) et les Serviteurs de la Charit\u00e9 (24 mars 1908) aux c\u00f4t\u00e9s de ses amis David Albertario et Giuseppe Toniolo. Guanella fonda \u00e9galement la Pieuse Union Saint-Joseph (1914) avec son soutien et premier membre, le pape Pie X.<\/p>\n<p>Anim\u00e9 par sa devise \u00ab On ne peut s\u2019arr\u00eater l\u00e0 o\u00f9 il y a des pauvres \u00e0 aider \u00bb, il \u00e9tendit ses communaut\u00e9s \u00e0 d\u2019autres r\u00e9gions d\u2019Italie et \u00e0 la Suisse. En d\u00e9cembre 1912, \u00e0 soixante-dix ans, il se rendit aux \u00c9tats-Unis pour s\u2019occuper des immigrants italiens. Il passa sa derni\u00e8re ann\u00e9e \u00e0 Rome \u00e0 aider les victimes du tremblement de terre des Abruzzes de 1915. Il mourut le 24 octobre 1915.<\/p>\n<p>Durant son s\u00e9jour aupr\u00e8s de Don Bosco au Coll\u00e8ge sal\u00e9sien de la Trinit\u00e9 de Mondov\u00ec, Don Guanella se familiarisa avec le Tiers-Ordre de Saint-Fran\u00e7ois. Le 19 mars 1877, il entra dans l\u2019Ordre.<\/p>\n<p>D\u00e8s ses premi\u00e8res publications, il signait son nom de tertiaire franciscain. Il prenait cet engagement au s\u00e9rieux, le consid\u00e9rant comme un approfondissement de sa vocation chr\u00e9tienne et sacerdotale.
